Tablescapes

Halloween Table Setting Ideas

Can you even believe that Halloween is almost here! Today I am sharing some Halloween table setting ideas that will inspire you to get in on the fun!

Thanks goes to Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate for hosting another fun table styling blog hop.

I have to admit, I have much more fun with Halloween now then when I did when the girls were little! No worrying about costumes, and trick or treating (in the snow some years!).

Halloween table setting ideas

In past years I have gone with a mystical themed table and an eerily elegant table. This year I decided to go simple and classic.

Back a couple of months ago I came across these beautiful black lace masquerade masks and they became the inspiration for my Halloween table.

The problem was, to complete my vision would require the purchase of ornate chargers, pink dinner plates, a gauze table runner and dark grey water glasses.

I always aim to have a table that speaks to the occasion and in doing so I have accumulated far more plates, chargers and other table styling accessories than I have room to store.

Halloween table setting ideas

Rather than head to the nearest HomeSense I instead got in touch with Simply Beautiful Décor, a local special occasion rental business that goes above and beyond simple white dinner plates and basic linen choices usually found at “party” rental places.

How could it be that I didn’t know about Simply Beautiful before. It was only by luck that I found out about them when I attended the wedding shower for my nephew and his (now) wife. I arranged the flowers for the occasion and when I got to the venue and saw how gorgeous the table setting was, I just had to know how this beautiful setting came to be!

When I found out it was a local business specializing in elegant décor, I knew that I would be paying them a visit real soon! Turns out it is a table stylists heaven!

They had everything I needed (and didn’t already own) to style my Halloween table exactly how I had envisioned. Classic and simple, almost a romantic spin on a Halloween party!

I think it would be a fun table for hosting a murder mystery dinner!

I created this autumn centerpiece for this week’s Market Flower Monday with this tablescape in mind. Dark and moody colors with just a pop of creamy pink dahlias and spray roses compliment the pink dinner plates.

The only other accessories on the table are white taper candles set in dark green empty wine bottles, mercury glass and pewter candle holders. I had thought of adding a few skulls to further create a Halloween theme, but actually much preferred this “less is more” look!

Simple sliver flatware flanks the plate stack, all sitting upon a basic black tablecloth. I used vines growing in the yard to extend the centerpiece and allow it to mingle with the candles.

My favorite mask is the one pictured below! It could very well have something to do with the fact that it has a crown!!

One thing I know for sure is that renting tableware for special occasions is such a smart way to bring your vision to life without breaking the bank or using up precious storage space! Especially those pieces that you may only use once or twice.

RENTED:

  • Wildflower Ivory Chargers
  • Heirloom Blush Dinner Plates
  • Smoke Debutante Water Glass
  • Light Grey Gauze Runner

ALREADY OWN:

  • Black Tablecloth
  • Lagostina Flatware
  • Black Napkins
  • Candlesticks, wine bottles, and candles (Ikea)

PURCHASED:

  • Masquerade masks (Amazon)
  • Some flowers for the centerpiece (others foraged)

I have had such fun visiting the all the other bloggers so far this week, all sharing their own Halloween table setting ideas. (You can find the links below.) If you are stopping by from Debbee’s Buzz, welcome!

Oh Maureen I really LOVE this! It is a breath of fresh air from a multitude of skeletons and creepy things, so unique and elegant with just enough of a nod to spooky with the wonderful masquerade masks…it’s all dramatic and powerful and yes, a lovely setting for a murder mystery too! Love the black cloth with white dishes, silver candlesticks and the pop of color from the flowers, sophisticated spooky!!

Maureen, a mesmerizing, mysterious masquerade tablescape, and oh so elegantly eerie. Those masks, oh my! As self proclaimed Queen Bee, Queen of Theme, and this time of year, Scream Queen, I MUST get one with the crown! Renting — genius! What a great idea. I’ll have to look at what’s available near me. Do you mind if I ask the cost? Like you, I simply have no more space to store anything — particularly stemware and chargers.

But the star of your table is the boo-tiful floral centerpiece. It’s simply stunning! How talented you are.

Thanks so much Debbee! I found the cost of renting to be very reasonable. Roughly $60 for everything for 6 place settings. It would have cost close to triple that if I was to purchase similar items (if I could even find them!).

What a great reminder about rentals. I have seen some incredible candelabras I would love to incorporate into a tablescape, but . I certainly don’t need to own them, and especially, not have to store them! The masks on the white dinner plates are so elegant, and such statements all in their own! Fabulous!

Maureen, your table is so full of mystery and leaves a lot to the imagination. I love your “moody” floral centerpiece with the trailing vines (ready to creep around your guests.) The mask salad plates are perfect for the mystery of it all. A great subtle, eerie tablescape. Happy Halloween.

Quitely elegant is the way I would describe your table. I too have more tableware than I have room to store and renting is a wonderful idea. The lacy mask is fitting for the holiday and I hope you have a Happy Halloween.

Maureen, this was a BRILLIANT idea and execution of ideas! I wonder how many of us tablescaping-loving bloggers could set up our own rental businesses?? I honestly believe I could…….

Bravo to your simple and classic styling. The floral centerpiece is dramatically beautiful.

Maureen, such an elegant table. I love that we each can get so creative. Sometimes creepy, spooky or elegant. The masks look fabulous, especially with the crown. Great idea renting instead of buying. Like Rita said, we all probably have lots of stuff. I am loving the centerpiece florals. Simple and classic styling is a breath of fresh air. A pleasure joining you on this blog hop.

Maureen, I love your classic and romantic take on Halloween. The masquerade masks were a fabulous idea. The centerpiece is stunning and perfect for your table. I think I could start a rental business with all of my dishes and linens. But, it seems, I am still missing that one thing for certain tables.

The masquerade masks are really elegant on such gorgeous settings. Renting is such a smart idea and one I intend to look into. You are so right, I to am running out of room to store so many dishes, chargers and such even though I love them all.

Maureen, your Halloween tablescape is elegant yet still has the mysterious feeling of Halloween with those masks. I went with a masquerade theme this year, too. It’s more of an adult take on the holiday. What a great idea to rent the plates, glasses and runners. I may have to look into that! The black masks look so dramatic against the ivory plates. And I love the vibrant colors in your centerpiece. It’s always a pleasure to hop with you!
