Thank you to the delightful Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate. She hosts a blog hop where our lovely group of table stylists share their vision of the theme for the month! This month, of course, is Christmas!

Be sure to visit all the bloggers this week. All the links are below. I also created a short video to show you how I styled this table from start to finish!

Plaid has always reminded of Christmas, and I do use it often in my décor at the holidays. This year though, it is all about plaid at our house. If should see my Christmas tree! It is all wrapped up in pretty plaid ribbon.

Since my dining room is open to the living room, a plaid Christmas tablescape was definitely in order!

The best part of this year’s table (and my love of plaid) is that I didn’t really need to buy anything.

I used red plaid napkins I already had, and used for this tablescape. They are the perfect focal set on top of the plates.

Can we talk about the fresh table runner?! I was able to use the left over greenery I purchased at the market leftover for other projects.

A simple arrangement of candles creates a centerpiece of sorts. You may have seen the white candlesticks on my tables before. They are really an upcycle project (you can see it here) that are the bases for miniature cake plates. To say I got my moneys worth from these thrift store finds is an understatement!

Red berry branches I had in my Christmas stash add a pop of colour against the greenery. I cut a four strips of plaid ribbon to drape along the greens.

The plaid napkins and a little bundle of boxwood clipped from the backyard really stand out against my favorite white plates. These were purchased at Home Sense a number of years ago.

I didn’t feel the need to add a placemat or table cloth since I like the natural look of the wood table.

Depression crystal Pilsner glasses hold cranberry juice and club soda for a festive, light beverage.

I made the easiest Eggnog Cupcakes and placed each one in a cute plaid paper cup. They make a cute and festive addition to each place setting.

The extra cupcakes sit on the sideboard with a few extra holiday touches! The Santa teapot has been around for years. The little white lantern was a gift from my sister. She made one for each of us. It is adorned with a little angel charm and inside is a little (battery) red candle.

The candle will be ‘lit’ every day leading up to Christmas in memory of our Mom who we lost earlier this year, and our dad who had been waiting for her in Heaven.

Christmas is my most favorite time of the year. The lights, the colours, the plaid! But most of all, it is gathering with family and friends around a festive table to share in the spirit of the season and to look forward to all the possibilities of the coming New Year!

  2. Maureen, can we talk a little more about that centerpiece? Oh my! It’s the star of this tablescape! It is just wonderful, and the ribbon is perfect. I watched your video, waiting for that ribbon trim and wondering how you would add that since it was all coming together without it, hehe. The video was great, but who knew your hair is blond?!
You know I’m mad for plaid, always will be, and I love how you fashioned yours. I’m whispering a little prayer of comfort for you in this first year – a particularly hard one – without your mom. May your Christmas be merry and light. ♥

    1. Thank you Rita! The ribbon was super easy. I two lengths for each side, tucked them in at the centre and just came them a loose twist as I laid them out across the greens! I really need to upgrade my pictures! I let my hair go gray! Planning a post about it in the New Year!

  3. I am” mad” about the way you styled your centerpiece table runner!! I LOVE the way you simply layered the abundant greens and ribbons! It looks gorgeous and you don’t need placemats at all. My hubby said let’s do plaid on the front porch this year until I pointed out I had bought TONS of red velvet on sale last year! The fresh greenery on your table is the outstanding element for me!
