Sundays are the perfect day to gather the family and enjoy a leisurely dinner. But, that doesn’t mean you need to spend all day in the kitchen preparing a feast! This recipe starts simply, with browning the chicken in melted butter until golden, then a delicious creamy sauce is made with onions, mushrooms, cream, Oxo cubes and some hot water. Finally, everything is baked in the oven to golden perfection.

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • butter
  • fresh mushrooms
  • onion
  • garlic powder
  • flour
  • beef and chicken Oxo cubes
  • hot water
  • 5% or half and half cream

How to Make Sunday Chicken

Brown chicken in melted butter in frying pan, then remove to a plate and set aside. Add mushrooms and onions to the frying pan and cook for 1 minutes; sprinkle with flour and garlic powder, stir and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.

Add hot water, Oxo cubes, and cream; stir until thickened and bubbly. Pour into a baking pan and arrange chicken on top of sauce, pressing in slightly. Bake at 350 Fahrenheit for 1 hour. Chicken should register at least 74 degrees celsius or 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • 1 frying pan

Ingredients
  

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • ¼ cup chopped onions
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 beef Oxo cube
  • 1 chicken Oxo cube
  • 1 cup hot water
  • ½ cup 5% or half and half cream

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350℉
  • Melt butter in a frying pan, add chicken breast and fry until golden brown on both sides. Transfer to a plate.
  • Add mushrooms and chopped onions to the pan and cook for about a minute. Sprinkle with flour and garlic powder, stir and cook for 1 minute. Add Oxo cubes, hot water and cream. Stir and cook until thickened and bubbly.
  • Pour mixture into a casserole dish, arrange chicken breasts on top, pushing them down lightly into the sauce. Bake at 350℉ for one hour, until chicken reaches 74℃ or 165℉, basting 2 to 3 times during cooking.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days in the refrigerator.
