An Early Autumn Tablescape

I am so delighted to be participating in this fun early autumn tablescape blog hop hosted by the very talented Chloe from Celebrate and Decorate!  If you are hopping over after enjoying some of the other gorgeous tablescapes, a very warm welcome indeed!  If this is your first stop on the blog-hop the entire week’s posts are linked below.  The inspiration really is incredible.

Early Autumn Tablescape Blog Hop

While many people are moaning and groaning that fall comes to soon, I for one say HOGWASH!  I can finally come out of hibernation now that the temperatures are cooling off and we finally able to sleep with windows open again.

Autumn Tablescape Blog Hop

I start dreaming of autumn round about July 1st.  Now, don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy the long days of daylight and the blooming gardens, but most summer days are just so stifling hot that I don’t even want to go outside!

Autumn is also the best time of year to gather around the table with friends and family.  I love to set a pretty table, but I also don’t want to spend a fortune doing so.  I always hit up thrift stores, dollar stores and clearance sections at HomeSense and Pier One when I am putting together a pretty tablescape.

In fact, for this early autumn tablescape I didn’t have to spend a penny.    I just gathered things from around the house and the garden and as Tim Gunn say’s “Make It Work”!

Even our farmhouse dining table was a DIY project!

The glassware belong to my Nana (my grandmother on my mother’s side)  I have no idea of the pattern name, but it is really delicate glass with a little etched flower pattern and gold rims. Given how delicate the glass is, I am surprised I still have 6 of both sizes left!

The floral china belonged to my Grammie (grandmother on my Dad’s side).  I have been searching for the pattern name, as I inherited it with one dinner plate and 2 bowls missing from a 4 piece set and I would really love to replace them.  I do know it is made by Cmielow from Poland.  If anyone has any idea what this pattern is I would be grateful to know.

I stacked these salad plates on top of yard sale ironstone plates and dark wooden chargers.

I used Pears from the crisper drawer and just set them atop my thrift store upcycled candle sticks. The lace edged linen napkins from HomeSense I already had. Mismatched flatware including some beautiful bone handled Sheffield knives are from my friend Leslie.

Flowers from the garden including limelight hydrangea, black eyed Susan’s and Japanese Red Maple.  I just plunked them in my blue ball jars lined up in this “Fixer Upper” style thrift store upcycle project.

A set of yard sale candlesticks, an old grapevine pumpkin and a huge plaid tablecloth folded up to create a table runner complete my early autumn tablescape.

  1. Maureen, you’ve created a lovely tablescape. I have a similar toolbox that I use as a centerpiece, too. Love your candlesticks with the glass and wood combo. Very unique. Your plates pick up the blue of your tablecloth which a nice touch. Happy to be on the blog hop with you.

  2. I love that you are using things handed down by your grandmothers. It is a way of remembering them each time you use them and you really must use them as you are doing. I used to “keep for a special day” items handed down and then…they were almost unusable and my treasured family members were gone. …so good for you and the result is your table is charming. The tool box immediately caught my eye. Oh, the memories!

  3. Your treasured pieces from your grandmothers are beautiful! A light bulb of sorts went off when you mentioned flowers from your Japanese Red Maple. I have one and it never occurred to me to bring a few clippings inside, thanks for the inspiration. The blue plaid tablecloth turned runner is so pretty and reminds me of how much I love plaid. It all came together beautifully Maureen and it’s been fun blog hopping with you.

  4. Hello Maureen, such a lovely fall table. The toolbox is a great centerpiece. So special to have your Grandmother’s dishware. Love the color and textures. The pears are a nice addition.

  5. Your floral arrangement is a work of art, I love the casual styling and mix, making your table warm and inviting~ it seems fall is everyone’s favorite season, as much as I love summer, I am becoming less and less a fan of the heat! I love your eclectic mix of family treasures and bargain finds~ happy autumn

  6. Maureen, there is nothing I love more than to see a table with family vintage and antique items in use, AND using things from shopping the home regardless of their origin. This is a beautiful early fall tablescape. I was searching your plates, and decided to back pop over to comments to see if anyone else had already found the pattern for you. Leave it to Mary, queen of tablescaping, to have helped you out. I just love that woman!

  7. Such a beautiful colour combo for this time of year – love the blue. Your centerpiece box looks terrific with the pretty florals and I really like those candlesticks you have on each end. The grapevine pumpkin adds a wonderful rustic touch. Your Grammie’s plates are fanatstic and must have so much special meaning for you.

  8. Maureen, your family heirlooms are such treasures and I love that you are using them! Your table is beautiful and the floral arrangement is stunning! Autumn is my favorite season, even though I find beauty in all of them! I have enjoyed blog hopping with you this week!

  9. Your rustic floral centerpiece and grapevine pumpkin are the perfect backdrop for your delicate china and stemware for this lovely tablescape! I know I am always using and re-using items, one cannot simply keep running out and buying new dishes, can we? Thank you so very much for joining us in another tablescape blog hop!

  10. Hello Maureen,

You have styled a very charming and lovely table. I have similar vintage wood boxes that I use for my centerpieces all the time. Your plates pick up the blue of your tablecloth which a nice touch.

Happy to be on the blog hop with you.

  11. Lovely fall table! And your grandmother’s crystal is beautiful. My mother gave me some very thin / delicate glasses and they were Fostoria. I think crystal used to be much thinner. Mine is really thick…ha ha. For good reason. Glad to have you with us on the blog hop!
